Ok. I costs roughly $20,000 just to have a kid. That's just to pop it out. Then it is estimated about $5000.00 a year. Then there is $20,000 a year for college. Unless of course you kick the little urchin/rugrat out at 18. So that's 20,000+ 18(5000) + 4(20,000) is... one heck of a lump of change. Solution = nobody have kids. (what the heck does this have to do with keeping sulcatas?) Well it goes like this. Oh, isn't that a cute little turtle (we all know it's a tortoise) in the pet shop. (Salesman)(cha-ching) You want one of these. It's a dynamite pet, Easy to maintain (yes, we all know better) and it stays relatively small. (relative to the green giant)(remember)(ho, ho, ho and all) Well you take it home and it starts growing and growing and growing and well you get the picture. What do you do now? well we can't get rid of it. It's part of the family(you get the picture). Quit being so judgemental. (yes I know it can go the other way.(but I'm practicing to be an optomist)

(yea, I know, a bit long winded)

: Hi Gary, I have to say that although I'm sorry you lost your first tortoise, it's pretty disappointing to hear you chose to obtain not one but TWO more sulcata tortoises, now knowing full-well that they are so impractical to keep properly for more than a few years in our area. From what you said about the place you bought them at, they didn't seem competent or very knowledgeable about the tortoises themselves, based on the information you shared with me that they initially gave you. I wish you luck with the two new tortoises but feel eventually that they will probably contribute to the alarming trend in increase of sulcata rehomings or abandonments in the Northeast.
