Hi everyone. I got an iguana today that i took from one of my neighbors. They told me they wanted to get rid of him because they hated his guts. they told me they have been trying to kill him by starving him to death, but he wouldnt die. In disbelief of what she said I went to take a look a the iggy.. and they were not kidding. his water was the color of coffee. and his food dish had mold on it. He had dead skin on him that had been there so long it was decomposing, it looked like giant scabs..the tank was DISGUSTING. Being a reptile lover I took the iggy even though i didnt have room for him, I couldnt let him suffer that fate any longer. The entire family hated him and was extatic when i took him. They told me to do whatever I want with him, bbq him, bake him and eat him ect..I dont know how someone could be that heartless to an animal but they were. He had no light, no food, no water, a filthy tank and a broken hot rock. they told me he was violent and could not be handled (which I certainly dont blame him.). they told me they havent touched him since he's a baby. he's almost 5yrs now. anyhow, i got him home, gave him a warm bath and got all that nasty dead skin off him. I clipped his nails which were over 1/2 an inch long. I gave him some pedialyte with a syringe. clean water and a gigantic bowl of mixxed veggies and friuts. (the same thing I feed my beardies)
I am very experienced with beardies but have never had an iggy before, so i need your guys help. I cant get him to eat and he is very out of it, almost like he's drunk. He stumbles and looks dizzy. I need your guys and gals help to nurse this fella back to health. I wanna give him a second chance but i am not familliar with iggys, only beardies. I have been reading up on all I can, but most of the stuff I find tells you how to take care of them, not how to nurse them back to health or get them to eat. I know their requirements are not too far off from my beardies. I gave him a full spectrum light, dusted his veggies with repcal and multi vite. I cant seem to get him to eat anything. I let him warm up for a few hours hoping that would stimulate his appetite. but he hasnt touched his food. After working with him for a few hours to clean him up and clip his nails, he really is a sweet iggy. This so called unhandleable iggy is a sweetheart and lets me pick him up no problem. although I have to say when i first took him out of the tank it was near impossible. he went berserk. anyhow.. I would really appreciate if all you iggy lovers could help me out and give me some advice from your experiences and expertise...
thanks
phil.
