: In response to a previous post I was hoping someone could tell me what a "ZOOMED" bulb is. I have a UVB/A Bulb. Is that not the best to buy??? I only want the best for my "HOSS". Where would I get a Zoomed bulb from and is it Flourescent or incandescent???
When a light bulb is labled as being "full spectrum" that means absolutly NOTHING! If the bulb's package does not state that it produces UVB then the bulb is worthless other than for heat to an iguana.
A ZooMed bulb is, in the case of UVB producing bulbs, a UVB producing fluorescent tube and is marketed under the names Reptisun 5.0 or Iguanalight -both are the same exact bulbs, different packages. They are the only fluorescent tubes worth purchasing because they are the only fluorescent tubes that produce any real amounts of UVB (which isn't very much at all -see my posts closer to the top of the forum).
The ONLY UVB producing non-fluorescent bulb on the market that I can attest to is the Active UVHeat bulb, now also being marketed by T-Rex. These bulbs produce UVB, UVA and heat. I have heard that both Zoo Med and ESU have recently put similar products out on the market but I have read no research nor done any inhouse testing on them. If the non-fluorescent bulb doesn't cost at least $50.00 then you can rest assured that that bulb does NOT produce UVB.
We've recently put some pages related to UV lighting up on our website. They are a good place to start when doing some research on your own to learn about UV.
