as far as protein ~
too much protein is hard on the kidneys and it's a fine line to decide which way to go in a case like this ... i'd think it'd be a safe assumption to say that Adam's entire digestive + renal systems are in a pretty weakened state right now ~ and so you don't want to make things worse by feeding lots of protein ... on the *other* hand ~ it's extremely important to start getting calories into him or his body's not going to have the energy to heal, no matter what else you do for him ... like i said, it's a fine line ~
i mention the "Naturade" as an alternative to products like "Ensure" ~ it worked extremely well in iZ's case ~ it's a vegetable powder + he actually liked the taste but the biggest deciding factor was that there are more calories in a smaller amount compared to liquid supplements (Ensure, etc) ... so it was possible to get enough caloires into him on a daily basis where i don't think i could've done it with a strawberry-flavored drink ... (*grin*)
it worked for iZ ~ whether or not it would help in Adam's case, i just don't know ...
