New baby baby red tail boa is having a hissing fit!

I just purchased my second boa, a 25 inch long Guyana Red Tail Boa and have had it at home just one full day. I tred to handle it today and it coils up and hisses violently at me! My question is, is this normal behavoir for young Red Tails and should I avoid handeling it for a few days or should I do the opposite and get him used to being handled? Thanks for any advice you can give. Craig
