: : I just purchased my second boa, a 25 inch long Guyana Red Tail Boa and have had it at home just one full day. I tred to handle it today and it coils up and hisses violently at me! My question is, is this normal behavoir for young Red Tails and should I avoid handeling it for a few days or should I do the opposite and get him used to being handled? Thanks for any advice you can give. Craig
: I had a bci that did the same thing for along time and henry on the boa forum told me to put a tshirt that i had been wearing in her cage with her. This way she was used to my scent. And it worked wonderfully. Now she is very sweet. Of course you must handle her alot also but it did help. Just my .02 worth

Danni,
funny thing, I tried the same thing and the boa actually got meaner.!! You should put a patent out on your scent if it works:) LOL
Take care.
