First,
Get over the idea that a little bite is gonna do you any harm! Really, this snake can't do him any damage ... it's just the "fear" of being bitten that's got him. If he were bitten once, he would probably say "gee ... that's all there is to it?" and never think twice again. As for putting his hand in front of the snake, I say do it. I do that every time, to let the snake know it's me. I have handled my snakes this way and the only time I've ever been bitten is during feeding (my fault).
So again, I say put your hand in the cage, don't hesitate ... just reach back and firmly bring him out. Allow him to settle and then keep handling him ... the more the better ... repeat often!

I guess we have to agree to disagree sue! :)
