A friend of mine recently had his green iguana lay 49 eggs. We are primarily snake people, and need help with this unexpected event. She is housed with a male, and, judging the eggs by snake standards, the eggs are fertile. They are white, perfectly formed , and about the size of a ping pong ball. He has them set up in lightly moistened peat moss. They are all buried in the peat moss. Should the be buried, or sitting on top? He is incubating them at 80 degrees. Is this hot enough? Are iguana sexes determined by incubating temps? What is the humidity requirment for hatching iguanas? Any help that you can give would be greatly appreciated.
