: the graphic examples of dead reptiles and amphibians that were shipped over here so Derek can get a clue where we are coming from? I don't have it but sure wish I did at this point. Someone posted it a long time back. After seeing this site, Derek, you may see the light. I hope someone has it available.
: You talk of us acting like PETA nuts.....well, PETA stands for People for the Ethical treatment of Animals, right? Freezing those eggs would seem pretty ethical to me. Especially knowing the many horror stories we see on this forum. Stick around awhile and read the posts. Hope you get to see the site, as well, so you can at least get an idea of where we are coming from. J
Finally, someone who can discuss this without having emotion cloud their ability to communicate. I would take a look at the site, if someone will post the link. However, pictures of dead animals from improper shipping just strengthen the argument for captive breeding, don't they? I believe that too many animals are taken from the wild. This number ideally should be zero. But then none of you would have the animals that you dote over on this forum. Isn't the short term alternative to import animals simply captive bred? Then, through education and legislation, we can keep even the captive bred animals out of the hands of people that shouldn't have them. (Big Brother is smiling now!) This realistically leaves only institutions such as zoos. Furthermore, posting those cute little pictures of Iggy with clever little captions and anthropomorphic stories only perpetuates the desire in the uninformed to have iguanas in their homes. Many people on this forum are guilty of this, yet no one has been railling against them. It seems that part of the effort to dissuade others from impulse purchasing that cute little iguana should be to limit this type of glamourizing of iguana ownership to private emails that are not subject to viewing by potential iquana buyers looking for info here. We are only feeding the fire. Perhaps we should only include posts describing the hardships of caring for these animals. You know, pictures of claw and bite wounds and scars. Pics of houses burned down due to iguanas toppling over lamps. Stories of sickness and death due to Salmonella from reptilian pets. Now wouldn't the HSUS love that? But, then again, it might just deter just one person from buying and iguana. I am for punishing the HUMANS that allow their animals to suffer. I am for holding HUMANS accountable for the responsibility of their reptilian charges. I am not for punishing these as yet to hatch, one week old iguana embryos. Don't worry, I won't refer to them as babies, or even animals, so as not to step on the toes of those that need to differentiate to feel better about their stand.
Finally, as far as comparing one's self to PETA, I wouldn't take much pride in that. Does anyone remember PETA "liberating" the poor minks from the fur farm? The majority of them didn't survive the night in sub zero weather. The freezer proponents should relate to this with glee. Thank whatever higher being you believe in that these minks didn't have to suffer through the humane manner of dispatching their lives that fur farms are held accountable for. Oh, before you say it, I know, and believe that FUR IS MURDER, but sometimes, so is IGNORANCE.
