Sometime last evening my 4 ft. iguana Gallahad managed to rip off one of his back claws in the wire of his cage. I can't tell exactly when it happened, because I saw the blood when I went in to give them water and shut down the lights for the night, and the blood still looked fresh. It looks like a pretty clean break, but for a reptile it looked like that was quite a bit of blood to lose. My first question... what can I do to help him heal up that toe? I managed to get a little hydrogen peroxide on the wound with a q-tip last night, for which I received a tail whip to the face, I'm sure that stung a bit (the peroxide, I mean, I know the tail whip stung). He must've picked at it, because he had blood smeared across his mouth, which I wiped off. Second question... is there any special food or vitamins I should give him to help the injury heal quicker. A little background... he shares an 8' x 8' cage with two platforms with a 3 1/2' female of a different species. They eat collard and mustard greens daily, with either squash or cucumber and occassionally bananas, and then dry canned iguana food every other day. I hate when any of my "kids" get hurt, and any information on what I could do for him would be greatly appreciated!
