I have had the same problem with spazzy ripping off an occasional toe nail.... either I have been very fortunate or she is a great healer, I have always put a little hydrogen peroxide on it when it first happens and just keep an eye on it, everytime her nail has grown back and no infection has set in. She does live alone in her cage, by the way the nails she rips off are completely off. I never cover or put antibiotics on it. Just my 2 cents. :O)

: Sometime last evening my 4 ft. iguana Gallahad managed to rip off one of his back claws in the wire of his cage. I can't tell exactly when it happened, because I saw the blood when I went in to give them water and shut down the lights for the night, and the blood still looked fresh. It looks like a pretty clean break, but for a reptile it looked like that was quite a bit of blood to lose. My first question... what can I do to help him heal up that toe? I managed to get a little hydrogen peroxide on the wound with a q-tip last night, for which I received a tail whip to the face, I'm sure that stung a bit (the peroxide, I mean, I know the tail whip stung). He must've picked at it, because he had blood smeared across his mouth, which I wiped off. Second question... is there any special food or vitamins I should give him to help the injury heal quicker. A little background... he shares an 8' x 8' cage with two platforms with a 3 1/2' female of a different species. They eat collard and mustard greens daily, with either squash or cucumber and occassionally bananas, and then dry canned iguana food every other day. I hate when any of my "kids" get hurt, and any information on what I could do for him would be greatly appreciated!
