I was wondering if any other iguana owners have come across a similiar problem with their iguanas:

Our latest addition to the program is Jub-Jub, a 3.5yr old healthy male ig. He was put up for adoption because of an extremely nasty temperment - he was constantly attacking, biting and lunging at his owners who thought he was in a breeding rut. They loved him dearly but with a newborn baby in the house they did not want to risk having this excessively aggressive iguana around.

Anyways, we took Jub-Jub in here and he was such a charm! The most affectionate thing we have ever seen. He was only here for a week when his owners came down, saw him and took him home. Jub-Jub loved his owners and responded well to them.

A couple of hours later, we got a call from them stating that Jub-Jub had attacked the wife sending her to the hospital for substantial injuries. Jub-Jub was attacking everything in sight, throwing himself at the glass, and was worse than before.

So, Jub-Jub came back here last night and once again, is a real sweetheart.

We have ruled out any potential abuse on the owners behalf, any trauma that might have occured, or breeding season which could be contributing to his aggression.

His aggression started when they moved to their new house. He is fine out of the house, but put him back in and he is un-controllable. There are no pets around and nothing to disturb him. But the only explanation is something environmental.

They informed me that the previous owners did have a dog. I know iguanas do not like dogs, but could it be possible that the scent of the dog, which permeates the house is causing this aggression?

Is there anything they can do to eliminate the scent and bring an iguana back into the home?

Any insight on this would be appreciated as these people are very upset about having to give up their pet. Sorry about the length of this but I think it helps to have the full story.

P.S. Jub-Jub is doing exceptionally well here and is back on the adoption list.
