I've never seen an Anolis swallowd there substrate. I don't think you may see this at an problem.
Btw for the people that use all types of paper towels, bark and other substrate thats need to be cleaned every week/month... Cleaning his tank, say 'changing' his tank will totaly stres your anole. When you prefer keeping your anole good, don't make use of this types of substrate, but use an non fertilized potting soil (Orchid, or normal mixed up with a third clean riversand) and live plants. You don't need to clean these types of tanks for years (I have tanks standing 7 years and never have be cleaned, only once half refild with new potting soil).
