did Adam Block cross the Texas and Mexicans as Dwight eluded to and you supported That's why I said "convenient". If Adam Block states on some forum posts he is or has crossed a Texas with a Mexican bairdi, then we have an outcrossed bairdi. It's convenient to not be able to verify. You can't make the original statement, if you can't verify the locality of the 2 bairdi. Do you know if the 2 snakes pictured on your website as male founder and female founder are the ones Adam picked up from the person in Phoenix? I'm not sold on the male coming from across the Rio Grande. Now, if Adam Block stated on the forum or somewhere that he had crossed a Mexican bairdi with a Texas bairdi and my trio were from such a cross, then I would have to go with the male being Mexican bairdi. Adam Block responded to me concerning the bairdi I was inquiring about at the time, that they were Texas bairdi (no mention of a outcrossing) but didn't have locale data on them. If Adam posts on this forum or somewhere that he is cross breeding and tells me the ones I'm getting are Texas bairdi and doesn't mention a cross breeding yet he knew they were crossed, then regardless of how pretty and nice looking they are, they are a trio of misrepresented bairdi. Trust me, these bairdi and the ones Adam produced are awesome and a great addition to any collection. Adam said he didn't have any locale data on the breeders. Without locale data or something stronger than looking orange and a greyish head (fairly strong evidence, yet not foolproof), then we can't guarantee the male has come from South of the Rio Grande locale and is a Mexican Bairdi. I agree Shannon, there's nothing wrong with a generic bairdi line. In fact, that's what I thought I had with the trio, only I thought they were Texas bairdi from Adam Block's stock.
:Yes, Terry, I need to make a backcross (or two) to see what pops out. I'd do that anyway to "fix" the male's coloration in my generic (that's what I call 'em) Block line-can't call 'em anything else.
:And to clarify on the origins of the pair--the pair are from the same owner--a breeder in Phoenix I blieve was what Adam told me (but that breeder got them from TWO diefferent sources). Not convenient, but what was available whne the guy asked Adam to come up and buy him out. When Adam saw the bairdi pair, he didn't care about ANY of the other snakes the guy was offering.
:There isn't anything wrong with a generic line Terry. Keep 'em as such and sell thm as such. I'm keeping my locale specific lines locale specific, but specimens from all locales (including Mexican bairdi) will be thrown into the generic line. That line should be variable and fun and gorgeous.
:And the founder pair MAY be 100% Texas bairdi, but I don't KNOW that and can't sell them as such because no one, even Adam, knows for sure.
