:That's something I've always wondered about. Do the aquatic turtles actually stay underwater for the winter? October to March? That's 6 months without air. Or do they burrow into the mud at the waters edge? The herp books I have never really say. They just say that the turts hibernate, duh!
:I've also wondered how people keep their turts in the veggie bin in the refrigerator. Refrigerators are airtight and the veggie bins reduce the air to about a 2 sq. ft. area.
:I'm also on the verge of going to a pond because my guys are getting to big for their tank. And boy, do I have questions.

Exactly...what do they actualy DO when they hybernate and can that be done in a pond with the painteds and the maps?? I just want to make sure I do right for these guys (S paints, Map and RES) in a pond year round.
