in all honesty maybe a dog would be the best choice, maybe a cat. i am not being rude but it seems to me that reptiles don't like to be handled. please know that this is only a personal opinion but a reptile that does sincerely like to be handled if such an animal exists is the exception not the rule. i had a beardie once that would run up to me in his 8x4 cage and proceed to run up my arm, when i scratched its back it would close its eyes, he seemed to like it but i have yet to find such a monitor or snake or other lizard. reptiles are neat, they are a joy to take care of and that is why i own them. i simply like to watch them and leave them alone and in return they reward me with natural behaviors such as breeding in the open, running wildly about their enclosures, and etc. it is your choice as to what you get and why but these are just some thoughts from a guy who might not know any better. oh and ps, i don't know if a dumeril despite its size is much more difficult to take care of, maybe a little but a lot of common sense and a little money goes a long way.

thanks, andrew
