I am offended by your post because in my opinion you should try to answer the question to the best of your ability and not turn away beginners to the hobby by remarks such as these.

Okay, maybe beginners shouldn't start out with a monitor, but I am not a beginner to reptiles, I have experience with snakes and geckos. Your post will not sway me from keeping reptiles as pets, but maybe someone else reading your post will and that saddens me. As far as I am concerned, the more people we have in this hobby the better.

Saying "why don't you get a dog" IS rude. Saying "I don't mean to be rude" most often means that you really DID mean to be rude, or at least you knew your statement was going to be taken that way.

So... why not just answer the question like "a bearded dragon would be the best choice bewteen the two lizards" and leave it at that?
