Look, i'm tired of argueing my point. Obviously you're not going to change your ways and i'm not going to change my opinion. I just don't think you should be promoting feeding animal protein to iguanas on an iguana forum. While a little may not be too bad for an iguana, it tells people that it's okay to feed and gives them the wrong impression. My iguanas do just fine without it and will likely live long lives because the lack of it. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this subject.

John-Paul: You said and I quote " First, stop feeding your green iguanas chicken, because they cannot have any meat or animal protein whatsoever. Not even a tiny bit. NONE. " You use the word ANY and NONE . This is simply not true .

: "since their digestive system cannot handle protein, therefore to feed it to them would be an injustice."

: In large amounts your right they can not process it .

: "Why is it so hard for you to believe that they cannot eat animal protein on a regular basis and stay healthy? "

: As I said a little is no danger . I was not talking about a it being a regular part of there diet .

: "It's a medically proven fact, i'm not pulling it out of my ass. 17 years and you still don't know that? "

: It is ? Please show me ONE long term study that says this . There is none ! therefor it is NOT in fact a medically proven fact . I did not say anywhere that I feed any type of animal protein to any of my green iguanas . The fact is when I got Speedy I did feed him crickets with his greens every day for the first couple of years . That is what all the books said to do . I am telling you that you need to rephrase you answer . You answer should have said something like . Animal protein is not a good choice for feeding green iguanas large amounts can cause harm .

:
: "I find it hard to believe you have any iguana that lived to be any more than 10 or 11 while consistantly feeding it animal
: protein routinely, but anythings possible I guess, but it'd be a fluke."

: Again I did not say that animal protein was feed to my green iguanas " constantly " anywhere in any of my posts .

: Just so you know juveniles and adults alike take animal protein in the wild . Not as a regular part of there diet but as a food of opportunity this tends to increase when other food sources or not available .

: As to prevent further confusion I DO NOT recommend any animal protein as a staple of any green iguanas diet . Nor have I ever . I am simply pointing out that animal protein in and of itself is not a toxin or immediate threat to an iguanas health . I do in fact agree that long term feeding of animal proteins can and does cause harm . I addition it is known that water intake has more to do with kidney failure then does the topic at hand .

: Travis
