And, more importantly, got a license to practice veterinary medicine? How about a good attorney if anyone ever caught you practicing without a license or at the VERY least under the guidance of a qualified herp vet. If you're asking if Betadine is a good disinfectant for reptiles I would HIGHLY suggest that you forego trying to stitch a wound that, by now, may be infected and need more than "simple stitching" for treatment. Sutures are sutures and, as such, should be administered by qualified trained individuals. Got the correct gauge needles for the job? How about the correct thread ? Any xylocaine or any other form of local anesthetic to numb the area? Wait, igs usually won't sit still for a procedure such as this - got any general anesthetic handy? Is sodium pentathol appropriate or will nitrous oxide do the job?

Now, granted, I'm ASSUMING that you've had the ig for 5 years which may or may not be true BUT if you HAVE had him for 5 years why HAVEN'T you found a qualified herp vet to take him to? Recently moved/relocated, etc. would be acceptable answers. "He's never needed a vet." however, is not. Annual "well animal" checkups should be part of ANY animal husbandry regardless of the species.

Try looking at the ARAV site under the "members" section for qualified herp vets in your area ESPECIALLY if you are within the continental United States. Do your ig a favor and find him/her qualified treatment before infection does have more of a chance to set in.
Good luck....
