No threats were made. No intimidation was ever meant. Nor was any preaching. It's simple really - if you do not have appropriate training as, in this case, a veterinarian then you have no business attempting to treat an animal when you obviously do not have the necessary knowledge to do so. Maybe you should have thought of that before you made the impulse buy "on a trip down to Vancouver". Had you actually put the time in to research the animal you might have known beforehand that there were no qualified herp vets anywhere near you. Knowing that, you may not have made the irresponsible decision to purchase the ig but now you're stuck and, as a result, have to ask questions such as the one you asked. As I stated before "recently moved/relocated" is an acceptable answer for not knowing the location of a qualified vet ESPECIALLY for something so out of place in the Yukon as a tropical animal. "Things are different up here" is MOST DEFINITELY NOT an acceptable answer and only demonstrates the ever growing thought process in the herp community of less than qualified individuals that believe that reptiles are simple animals to care for in captivity.
Yes, there are certain measures that the advanced hobbyist can handle on their own, there are some that can be handled after the guidance of a qualified, licensed veterinarian but SOME things simply should be treated exclusively by a qualified vet with the appropriate knowledge. Just as an example, what you have just outlined would be construed as cruelty and punishable under the animal cruelty laws in the state of New Hampshire. You would also be held accountable for practicing veterinary medicine without a license. Not my rules, just the way the "game" is played. Just because you do not have the appropriate services near you does not let you off the hook for your responsibilities to properly care for an animal. As far as your father stitching up your brother are concerned, there are simply too many punchlines that come to mind so I'll leave that alone. In any case, that particulr incident does not necessarily qualify any of you to work on exotic tropical animals.
Next time you THINK you want to take on the responsibility of caring for an animal, BEFORE you go out and make an IMPULSE purchase only to find out that you can't properly care for it, do some research BEFORE you buy it. You're obviously not "so far up there" that you don't have internet access. Or how about accepting the fact that when you ask a question you may get answers back from more experienced individuals that you don't like even though they may be the correct answers, such as the individuals that replied to your post.
NOW, having said all of that, if you like we can go over your husbandry if you would be interested in making sure that your ig will properly heal in the quickest amount of time using the best possible diet for your area, the best UV resources available to you, humidity etc.
