I'm interested in trying an Active UV bulb for Bobbit and Habib, however, I have a serious safety concern question:
Habib and Bobbit are free roamers, so there's no cage to contain the bulb if we got one. (We built a huge cage for outside basking, but as for inside, we have not built one yet and probably won't be able to for several months yet--if ever They do really well free-roaming.)
The Active UV bulb would be rigged up about 8 feet from where Josh's desk is at his office, out at his metal shop where the iguanas live. They live right in the office, which we've iguana-proofed for them, and have several basking spots rigged up, as well as their normal tube UVB light, humidifier, branches, food bowls, poop bin etc.
Is it safe to have an Active UV bulb in the same room with us if we spend some time every day? What about it it's several feet away from us? How far away is far enough?
I've never seen a ActiveUV bulb yet in person, and although I tried to read the label Ig Chick posted on her wonderful website, the print was too small to read every word. So, I'm wondering if anyone could tell me a definite yes or a no on having an ActiveUV out in the open in the office. I'm thinking the answer is no, but just wanted to run it by all of you to see if you had some light to shed on the subject. Has anyone used an ActiveUV without a cage before?
I just really want to try an Active UV bulb, but don't want to do anything stupid or harmful.
Thanks,
Diana
