IMHO, the flood light (100w) produces a good amt of heat over a fairly large area, more so than a 100w incand flood. however if by a basking bulb you meant a spotlight, then i dunno, i figure the spotlight will produce a smaller and hotter focal spot and then have a steeper thermal decline, which will obviuosly be different than the heat produced by a flood bulb. whether this is good or bad depends on size of your critter and the way your cage is setup. hope this helped
