They are guaranteed for a year, but you can use them from 12-18 months. They are not the same as just a regular bulb-- they replace the basking bulb AND the UV bulb. (A Zoomed 5 is $20, and Active UV is $60) You cannot use a Zoomed as long though. Don't get me wrong, I still use Zoomed 5 lights right now, but I may eventually switch.
