I bought a baby iguana yesterday. Very nice, bright eyed and healthy. However, I was also offered to take a hatchling which had also come in on the same shipment. He is tiny, underweight, dehydrated, and his left forearm is broken just below the elbow. Despite all this, the little guy was very bright eyed and curious. So, I wound up taking him with me. Last night we used a tiny bit of silicone aquarium tubing slit down the middle to act as a splint by putting it on his arm like a sleeve after I set the bone. Fits pretty darn beautifully. Then we taped his arm to his side. He looks like a little iguana mummy.
Do any of you have experience with iguana limbs being broken? How long did it take for the ig to heal as I am not sure how long to keep the splint on. I am going to keep his temp up, and offer extra calcium and plenty of UV to aid in healing.
He's not my first ig, but I haven't had to deal with a broken arm before. Just broken toes and tails.
