boas and pythons please help????

can anyone tell me the diffrence in these two snakes
i have no knowledge on snakes and my wife wants one so i wantted to find out which one to get so i can do alot of studying on that species before i buy it

also any suggestions would be helpfull
we have three kids 4, 3, 2, but they would never play with it just be in the room while my wife had it out. so a snake that get real nervous would be out of the question.
