Well, differences really depend on the *type* of boa or python. Can you give me more details about your situation? What size snake are you looking for? What kind of tank are you planning to put it in? Do you have any reptile experience? Do you want an arboreal snake?
If this is your first snake, as I suspect, I would recommend a Ball Python or an Irian Jaya Carpet Python. Both are moderate sized snakes with good temperments and fairly simple requirements. Neither of them cost a bundle, either.
