I agree that a ball python is a good choice they stay fairly small females being larger. Make sure if you decide to go with a ball python you get it from a known breeder. I purchased a bp about a year ago and it recently died. I found out that he was selling farm bred bp as captive bred. My girl friends first snake was a corn they stay pretty small and are friendly. She was afraid of snakes at first now we have a bp, corn, a redtail, and a burmese.
