:As for the identification, if the mother is a melanistic, she's almost entirely black with just some lighter scale around the belly. And from what i read, the baby melanistic arent black but they become with aging...
Trout pieces would work. I'd feed him twice a week to put a little weight on him. As he gets bigger you want to switch him over to pinky mice, better nutrition. My melanistics were jet black when they were born. I'd like to see pics of your snake!
