My school has purchased several herps for my program and I have a fund that I use to expand the program. They also spent 1000's building my enclosures. It's a political world and I know a few other schools that do the same. Generally it seems to do better if you build to a grand scale, as in a living exhibit, rather than a few classroom aquariums. And of course local business and grants can be most helpful.
