Dear sir,
"Pyramidinig" of carapace in captive tortoises is a very common
sign. Although there were many discussions of this issue on this forum before, still, I have several puzzles to solve from your
excellent knowledgement.
1. There are several instances that nature pyramiding appear in
the wild specimens(eg.Radiated T. Indian Star, Tent T...).
What are the differences between "captive made pyramiding"
and " nature pyramiding" on pathology (autopsy and microscopy
examination)?
2. If we give the captive tortoise high protein , but also high
calcium diet(so high as the way we keep Chameleon) which can
match the demand from rapid growth due to high protein
diet, will the pyramiding appear? Do you have such study
before?
3.You mentioned before that high protein diet would shorten the
life span of tortoise. How much degree will it happen? 10% or
50%..cuting short? Aren't there no species differece between
it? Do your sutdy result only focus on Testudo sp. or cover
many different genus( Geochelone, Indotestudo, Manouria,
Kinixys...)?
4. How much growth rate of a juvenile tortoise is suitable,
do you suppose? Any scientific data support it?
Thanks for your answering, that all benefit those tortoise lovers!
