Eye cap question??????

Is there any harm in letting the eye cap (which has not shed) remain until the next shed--as opposed to removing it? If I do leave it, and it does not come off with the next shed, then I think I'm going to the vet, but--I was thinking, if there is no harm in waiting, why not let nature take it's course--OR AM I MAKING A HUGE MISTAKE???
