: Is there any harm in letting the eye cap (which has not shed) remain until the next shed--as opposed to removing it? If I do leave it, and it does not come off with the next shed, then I think I'm going to the vet, but--I was thinking, if there is no harm in waiting, why not let nature take it's course--OR AM I MAKING A HUGE MISTAKE???
matt, no, you're not making a big mistake. i just went through this with one of mine. get some lacrilube from the drug store and put some on the effected eye twice a day on top of misting the snake as often as possible towards the next shed time. it's just a humidity problem that causes it. i got this info from taking it to a herp vet. and spending $40 for it. it worked great on the next shed. if you're immediatly concerned about infection you can get anti-biotic ointments by prescription. if you're going to manually remove it be VERY careful as the retinas are easily damaged. by the way, my snake ate fine during this period. good luck!
