I have a PTS, Adonis, that i have had for nine years. I brought him to the Vet School ~3 weeks ago b/c he was not eating & was not looking right. He has been there since then. On his first CBC, his WBC (white blood cell count) was 74,000. They put him on antibiotics, force fed him & gave him fluids. His next WBC was 45,000. Last week they did another CBC & his WBC was 84,000. Today it was 104,500. They are doing exploratory abdominal surgery tomorrow. He is now eating & soaking in his pool on his own. His abdomen is extremely distended (they have taken two sets of x-rays, both of which showed he had a lot of gas in his intestines), but his hipbones & back bone is sticking out. This is the first time he has ever had any problems. He was wild caught, so we do not know how old he is. Has anyone else had similar problems with their PTS? I am lucky to have an internationally known reptile vet, Dr. Mark Mitchell, working on the case. He has seen Adonis since we got him. But, there is no literature on this problem.
