I can only say that in my experience with one of my females, she had a slug surgically removed after she had been here for 1 1/2 years. Another female was here for just over a year when she passed a slug. (neither had been exposed to a male at that time)
Secondly, I have to say that you caring for Adonis the last nine years shows that whatever is going on with him/her has not been anything that you may have overlooked or has anything to do with the second guessing you may be doing now. There is no telling how old Adonis was when you got him. I also commend you on doing everything possible to find out what could be wrong & to try to save your PTS. I think the exploratory surgery will hold the key to alot of answers for you & luckily you have a vet that you are completely happy & comfortable with.
I will be the first to admit that what you described is way out of my league but when you mentioned the WBC counts, my first thought was cancer. I read about this in cases with iguanas but again, I do not know because there are so many variables. I just really wanted to wish you & Adonis the best & I hope whatever the results, you will let us all know.
