I agree with you 100% that importation should be banned. Heck, the farms who even breed these animals even mistreat them!

However, while you do make an excellent point about banning due to poor husbandry by the "eediotic" masses who do not spend time and money to learn and care for these wonderful animals; you are also asking to ban them as pets.

That's not fair. People like us, who do care properly for these animals, have the right to keep them as pets if they want to. If people can keep 12 ft. gators, we can keep iguanas in need of a good home and proper care.

Zoos do not want them, because they have more than enough. It is irresponsible to release them here in the wild, since there are already feral iguana populations in Fla and elsewhere.

Think of those who keep poisonous snakes or arachnids. Think of the morons who keep large felines chained all day. These people you should go after.

People like us are trying to make a difference, and some has showed in the last 5 years. More newbies come here for help first, or seem to be already properly informed on the basics.

Closing the doors on imported animals like iguanas is a sound idea. But completely banning them from the pet market is unfair for us. Unfortunately, we make up a minority. We are considered weird or sick. Those who do open up to the hobby, and see the good sides change their mind.......usually.

In some countries in Europe monitors are banned and considered ferocious and dangerous, because of some retarded kids or adults who thoguht it was cool to have Godzilla at home.
Hopefully it won't happen here.
Deadly pets like vipers and some arachnids I can understand, but not these animals.

Your heart is in the right place. You just need to focus more and open up more.

If I misunderstood your post, I apologize in advance, but this is how I interpreted it.

Regards,

-IJ
