In an ideal world, I think it would be lovely if private breeders supplied iguanas directly to people who want to buy one. No mass ranching, horrible shipping conditions, pet stores with their terrible advice, etc.
People could still keep iguanas, but would need to seek out a rescue or a private breeder who would be able to teach them proper husbandry and screen potential owners to weed out the ones who probably should own a less challenging pet.
Just people who know and love iguanas placing their hatchlings or rescued animals in decent homes. That would cut out a number of the problems right there. No impulse buys would solve a lot right there.
