at heart, i totally AGREE!
but then i stop + think ~ (+ i work in an ICU so i DO think on this frequently) ...
Right Now, the best way for people to learn SOME PROCEDURES, is by learning on animals ... do you REALLY want the doc who's doing a procedure on you/your loved one, to be doing it on a live being for the 1st time ~ EVER??? in an emergent situation?
the morality of giving an animal wounds, in order to LEARN how to heal, IS a really tough part ... and YES, i have problems with that as well ... but let me point out ~
these animals ARE NOT TORTURED!
these animals ARE anesthetized BEFORE + DURING ANY and ALL procedures!
they ARE given pain control!
they ARE well cared for before, during + after!
you keep coming back to testing cosmetics, etc. on animals ~ and in that, i wholeheartedly agree that it is NOT necessary! and you HAVE to realize, it is the RARE cases that make good news copy ~ the abuses of power that grab people's attention ~ and it SHOULD! but don't judge the entire thing by a FEW abusive people ...
what I AM talking about, is the valuable medical discoveries that medical + surgical procedures on animals has given us ... i have friends with deformed legs from having had polio when they were little, before the vaccine ... i have friends who are diabetic and would be dead right now if not for insulin ... i have a friend who was dying but recently received a brand new liver ... another who recently received a new heart ... my gramma was diagnosed with untreatable cancer ~ but guess what? they treated + cured it + she lived another 20 yrs ... what they DON'T know about Alzheimer's and strokes, killed her ... what they DIDN'T know about bones + fixing them 20 yrs ago, crippled my grampa + killed him ...
you say they were old + it was maybe their time? well ... at the beginning of the 1900's, at 42yo, I would have been considered OLD, elderly and ready to die ...
10 years ago, my best friend killed himself cuz he'd been diagnosed with AIDS and there WAS no hope ... today, maybe there is ... but i still miss him ...
and i agree ~ Death IS a natural part of life ...
and i have been priviledged to be a witness to more than i'd have wished ... and it IS a privilege, even moreso than witnessing birth ... the END of life is just as miraculous as the beginning ... and maybe we are playing God by trying to extend our lives to 80 yrs and more ... maybe we're playing God by trying to heal ourselves ... maybe ... but God DID create us in his/her image ... and maybe ... maybe ...............
you say you have done extensive research regarding lab animals + testing ...
but have you ever WORKED taking care of lab animals??? if not, i don't think you can clearly see the OTHER side of this ...
and they ARE trying to find better, more humane, more ethically + morally acceptable alternatives ... but right now, the animals have given us more than we can EVER hope to repay ... and there IS a very special place in Heaven for them all ...
and HOW did we ever get so off the topic of igs anyway???? *grin*
Bon.
