I have studied animal testing and research quite extensively... did speeches in college on it. I realize that I have benefited from animal testing, but that doesn't make it right. It is one thing to maybe try experimental procedures on animals to save their lives-- I find nothing wrong with this, but to give an animal burns or harm them in order to learn from them is morally wrong in my opinion. And of course one could use the argument against me that if my family member had a disease-- I would then believe it would be worth testing thousands of animals to save my loved one's life (but that would be my own selfish desire not to lose someone). Death is a part of life...some die sooner than others.... causing suffering to another living creature for your gain is immoral to me. There are other ways of testing-- especially now that so much testing has already been established (and especially for cosmetics and household products). There are exceptions when testing animals that already have trauma and diseases-- in the hopes that you may cure them. Humans are perfectly capable of volunteering for testing themselves-- and some would were the right incentives offered.
