I went to the Dane County Humane Society today to look
at one of their igs that is up for adoption. I wanted to get
your opinion because I am new to iguanas as you know.
It was an owner surrender: Owner does not want. Age 2 yrs,
3 months. About 2 1/2 feet long. This ig has been at the
shelter since June/02. The staff feel it is a female. She
seems to be healthy, although a little on the small side. It
does appear to have some old MBD and its fingers are deformed.
It's jaw doesn't seem to fit flush but it did take food from
the staff's hand and I observed it take a few bites from its dish. It showed no aggression during handling but is not
comfortable being held. I spent about 15 minutes with it
out of its cage and it gets around very well and seems fine.
The staff did tell me that its urine smells very strong and
that this could mean possible vet bills. Any clues as to
what may be causing that. The other thing I noticed was it
scratched itself quite a bit- could this be mites? How does
the size compare to age? Normal? Sorry for all of the questions
but I do need some assistance/reassurance on my first ig.
Does her reactions to me seem to suggest a calm temperment?
She was cracking me up, tilting her head and looking at me.
The other funny thing is that when the employee went to put
her back in the enclosure she starting head bobbing.
Sorry for the long post
