That is a bit small. However since it sounds as if there is MBD in the past, that would account for the smaller size. Overall the iguana may be stunted.
Residual MBD much like what oscar had is very livable. Jaw doesnt quite fit, but poses no apparent problems. Since you saw that it was properly able to eat, you know it can live just fine.
Toes... Remind me to get a good pic of my little ash's toes. They go every which way, but he gets around just fine... Some depending on degree, climbing may be an issue that needs to be addressed... Rather than on long branch or ramp going to top levels, less inclinded branches may be needed.
It sounds reasonably tame and it may become quite a cuddler... Im not sure how they are set up over at dane, however more often than not reptiles become a bit skittish about handling just from all activity..
As for mites, Im pretty sure knowing dave that that isnt the problem with the itching. Dry air and/or shedding would be more likely caused. Dampen a white paper towel and pet ig with it.. You will see mites on the towel.
Urine smell is interesting. Could be internal parasites (which would account for small size as well), could be stress levels, could be what ever they are feeding. No matter where you decide to get an ig, a fecal float is necessary. Parasites are treatable with meds. But to be totally honest, when coming to that particular item in herp care, Iguanas are by far the stinkyist I have ever owned.

:It was an owner surrender: Owner does not want. Age 2 yrs,
:3 months. About 2 1/2 feet long. This ig has been at the
:shelter since June/02. The staff feel it is a female. She
:seems to be healthy, although a little on the small side. It
:does appear to have some old MBD and its fingers are deformed.
:It's jaw doesn't seem to fit flush but it did take food from
:the staff's hand and I observed it take a few bites from its dish. It showed no aggression during handling but is not
:comfortable being held. I spent about 15 minutes with it
:out of its cage and it gets around very well and seems fine.
:The staff did tell me that its urine smells very strong and
:that this could mean possible vet bills. Any clues as to
:what may be causing that. The other thing I noticed was it
:scratched itself quite a bit- could this be mites? How does
:the size compare to age? Normal? Sorry for all of the questions
:but I do need some assistance/reassurance on my first ig.
:Does her reactions to me seem to suggest a calm temperment?
:She was cracking me up, tilting her head and looking at me.
:The other funny thing is that when the employee went to put
:her back in the enclosure she starting head bobbing.
:Sorry for the long post
