You can easily find information about tips and tricks for making the process faster.

Everyday working getting him to eat a treat out of your hand. use a treat food for this like banana, or other fruit. Then work up to petting him and rubbing him. Then you can work up to holding etc.

It may take longer than 6 months. It might take a year or more. But if you honestly feel you cannot provide a loving caring home for him because of his aggresion by all means find a good home for him. But when you say its because you aren't having fun anymore that is what I didn't like reading.
