read my post ? I've been fighting laws for a long time in the last 35 years of my life. Anyone can go to the archives on the law forum to see what I am talking about. Start with last years post on the 2 "venomous exotic" snakes that shut down Huntsville Alabama. Come to find out they don't even know if they were even venomous now let alone exotic. (there was some speculations about the snakes being a native copperhead and a cotton mouth). Look out ! I think I am on your side ! but I'm realting to laws that I am aware of and have voiced my opinions on such laws. I don';t know if there is a hint of severity of one thing over another....but the fact remains ..that laws can and will be pass for ANY animal running loose or escaping.
Also did I say they should of shot the iguana ? I said they could have ! And Oh ! Dealing with salmonella.....Yes. a lot of animals can pass and shed salmonella. But since it is a contact baterial disease there are reports that it is thought that some people with iguanas had devolped it through a bite situation. BTW. Iguanas are the second most carring salmonella bacterium of animals next to turtles. Probably the next most kept reptile pets in the country. It has been on the agenda of minds of the center of disease control for some time off and on. So you may lose your rite to keep igaunas one of these days.
Back to the "get down method". I didn't conclude the way it was taken down to be "the method" of choice. I said they could of done something a lot more drastic. Back to the general public thing. Just because you or I like iguanas (and other reptiles) we are but a small minority of the general pet keeping public. SO .........Is any body here to inane to think a kitten in a tree would be treated diff. then a igauna in a tree ? Hmm.....I think I would be a little more concern if I was a general public person when I see a tail whipping, mouth open, aggresive, flighty igauna (no, I don't know if this happened or not)then a cute little fuzzy faced kitten (I love cats to) up in a tree. let's think of alternative methods of grabbing a igauna from a tree. First of all I would think the igauna would be flighty, so would a gloved hand be sucessfull, don't know, next they could use a grabber, reports of body damage ...grab it by the tail, neck, body, leg, ?
I think before we pass judgement on the way the igauna was taken down let's see if anybody reports of the aftermath condition. I'll let it lay for awhile.......

: what is UPSETTING to those of us with hearts is that this teen was encouraged to HARM a scared + pretty defenseless SMALL animal ... and then ADULTS applauded his behavior ...

: the legality of the ig being there IS NOT THE POINT! abuse of small animals IS the point ...

: << What was "cruel" about the way the igauna was taken down? >>
: well let's see, when iZ was 3' long, he weighed about one pound ... maybe this ig in the story was fat, we'll give him 3 pounds ...

: let's say this was a 3# KITTEN ~ do you think ANYONE would have found it acceptable (let alone funny!?) if the same teen had been throwing a basket ball at a kitten????

: don't tell me "that's different" ... it IS NOT ...
: that ig was scared to death and totally out of it's environment and CERTAINLY deserved more humane treatment by the supposedly adult people present ~ and it makes me literally SICK that the Animal Control officers were a part of this ...

: a 3 pound animal DOES NOT DESERVE to have people throwing basketballs at it! PERIOD!

:
: << You know it could of been shot down because it is a vectore of disease carrying salmonella. >>

: WHAT!?!???
: do you know ANYTHING about salmonella????
: did you know that dogs + cats can ALSO carry salmonella??? should they shoot dogs + cats when THEY get lost as well??? WHY NOT!?

: do you think this ig was gonna run up + bite people just to infect them with salmonella??? (which btw, is NOT how it's spread ...)

: and the ability of a poor 3' ig to "cause general panic" is just too inane to reply to .......
