Where do you get off calling my life small? Do you know me? Do you know what goes on in my life day to day? All of those people should have been fined for animal abuse. A 9 year old little boy was arrested last week for throwing rocks at a crocidile...what's the difference? As for the news article that was written...it made light of a very sad story and upheld the belief that herps are samonella spreading, hand chomping animals. It was digusting. Also, I never said it wasn't possible there would be bans on herps. I was stating that it's rediculous compared to the damage done by so called domesticated animals. It's all about perspective people, and education to the public that these animals are not fire breathing, disease spreading monsters. Oh, and on a lighter note, I do have glasses and they work fine...maybe Mr. Chambers needs to make his point a little more clearer the next time.

: a pet over other more important matters in ones life. Did the artical say the iguana was killed ? They HAVE passed a law in my township over some reptiles. Large boids and large lizards and IGUANAS. Mr Chambers helped me fight this restriction. We lost ! It may come a time when they proceed to pass a similar law in your place.
: FYI. On a reptile website several years ago stated what M. chambers was talking about. It could be he didn't get the WHOLE message across or some of you need glasses ! As far as the keeping of reptiles as pets (REPTILES, not dogs, cats) and the transmitting of salmonella, the species of iguanas was the second most carrier of salmonella of kept reptiles (reported). The number one species as we all know is turtles. In other words (and I'm sure the statistics here have changed) the small percentage of reptile transmitted salmonella that had been reported had come from iguanas. Small but still in the hundreds at the time this was viewed. The center of disease control was looking into the matter and deciding on if a ban on igaunas was for the good of the general public. It evidently didn't go that far at the time. Gee ! Even though I was told why the ban was on small turtles I thought that I DID understand that salmonella was a part of the ban. Federal ? Linked to salmonella ? So don't tell me that they can't ban iguanas as pets for this reason. Maybe stats show the hugh numbers of iguanas kept/imnported might have something to do with this. It would be interesting to find how many cities and towns have passed the restriction and or ban of iguanas. Maybe then you all can see Mr. Chambers message. And I hope you all have a crusader like him to help out. Farther more ,no matter the reasons for bans or restrictions, they all start from some place. Like maybe a loose iguana ! ?

: : Aftera reading your post I'm absoulutly disgusted. The whole point is that people need to become educated about reptiles instead of fear them. Iz's mom is right, most samonella cases are FOOD related. I don't see the feds busting down your door because your pork is under cooked. Common sense folks, WASH your hands. I also think that the CDC has more important things to worry about than reptile transmitted samonella ( or should I say pet transmitted samonella, since most animals can be VECTORS ( note the spelling ) ). As for vicious animals being set loose in the neighborhood...christ, that wasn't a crocidile in the tree...if those people were at all compassionate or educated ( or half way intellegent ), they would have found a more humane way to get that poor iguana out of the tree. Why don't you let someone drop a volkswagon bug on your face and see how it feels. I think that would be the equvilant of a three pound iguana being hit with a basketball. As for the reporters, that article was poorly written and condoning of animal abuse...bottom line...may PETA come knocking on thier door. It's funny, I have had dogs tear up my garbage, chase out livestock, chase my sister, kill our cats, not to mention a stud horse rounded up the neighborhoods mares ( causing tons of damage ) and put them in my back pasture ( in the process of running about 6 mares across my lawn to boot), and a small herd of cows got out and proceeded to eat our new shrubs to stumps...did that get any press? Did anyone haul out the basketballs or shot guns...no...I don't understand how " normal pets " can cause so much damage to property and people and when one little lizard or snake gets loose everyone has a complete cow...education folks...start paying attention...
