What to poop in (pic)

I switched my spiney-tailed Ig from cyprus mulch to newspaper and I was wondering if anybody had any ideas as to what to put in the spot that she will poop in. She usually pooped in one spot of the cage and I'm assuming she will do the same with the newspaper. I was thinking that a shallow pan of cat litter in that spot might be good so it gets absorbed and she wouldn't be walking in her wet poop. Is cat litter unsafe? I'll welcome any feedback.
