How about washed playsand? I kept Cecil (should be Cecelia, but oh well) on sand for a very long time and she seemed perfectly safe and happy with it. Lately, with so many lizards to care for I've switched to carpet on most of the bottom with papers on one end. She always seems to use the paper for her duty, makes cleanup very easy for me. I think Cecil is showing signs of gravidity, my first experience with this in a spiny. That's a truly beautiful animal that you have. I really need to get some new pics!
