I think cat litter is bad....

It clumps when it gets when and the iguana may eat some of it. Use a cat litter pan with a little water in it. Or you can use the newspaper. I had my iguana paper trained. It took some time, but she would go on her patch of newspaper in the kitchen (she was allowed to free roam) and then climb back to her basking spot on the sofa.
