help tip of tail snapped off

hi the tip of my iguanas tail snapped off about 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch ive been washing it with betadine and using neosporin anibiotic ointment . i know it will heal .ive bandage it so it wont become infected does this sound right im gonna call the vet monday to see if he needs a prescription so no infection develops thanks mike
