Generally I am not into bandages either, especially if the injury is on the topside of the ig-- however, I did use one on my last ig, Salvador. He built up a serious callous (sp?) on each foot from sitting on hard objects over the years. One day, one of them just fell off, leaving a strange hole beneath, but no bleeding-- I could see what was under the scales though (very strange) and very deep. I was very worried infecting would set in inside his foot or objects would get caught in there. So I used antibiotic and loose bandages during the day, and let it breath/air out at night. It also gave him some extra padding to walk around on. Slowly it healed up-- and as soon as it looked less tender, I stopped all bandages. I just did what seemed best-- but perhaps you are right with the tail. I've never seen what this looks like first hand, but overall I find bandages seem to hinder healing (on humans anyway). So, I'm not mad at the contradiction-- I hesitated discussing the bandages one way or the other.
: I'm not arguing with you, okay??? I can see why everyone wants to put a bandage on to keep the poop off. I stood there and questioned our vet after both of Lightning's surgeries about this. But both times we were told to keep it "open" and dry (had to remove all water). Of course, both of those times she was on antibiotics and perhaps that is why the vet wasn't really worrying about infection anyway *grin*
