Mike--Our female iguana's tail has had this happen twice now. *sigh* The first time she got dry gangrene in it and it had to have some more of her tail removed by the vet in order to heal. The second time she had a very dry section at the very tip of her tail and we took her in so that it could be taken off before gangrene could start up in to the rest of her tail. We were standing in the vet's waiting area and as we raised her tail to show it to him we saw that the tip was GONE! She had whipped about getting her carried up to the vet and had whipped the tip clean off! *grin* The vet sent us home and told us to just put Neosporin on it after cleaning it up.
The one thing that I would tell you is to remove the bandage. A bandage can sometimes trap any bacteria and actually cause an infection. As long as you have cleaned it and doctored it and keep it dry everything should be okay. Your vet may want to go ahead and put your iguana on Baytril for a few days just to make sure no infection sets up. Don't be concerned if he does not though. Ours didn't this second time because there were no signs of infection.
