IG - Urgent HELP needed (kidney / liver problem)

Please help,

Our dear 5yr iguana is ill. We have search the internet (this forum too ofcourse) for information concerning his problem but there doesn’t seem to be many igs with the exact same problem as our has.

We have been to the vet who has done extensive blood test on him. The result shows problems with kidneys and liver. We don’t know the exakt reason for this, but we suspect it could be due to dehydration since we never fed him any animal protein, only “good” vegetables.

The result of the blood test showed that phospor/calcium where inverted and that the follwoing values was very elevated :

“Bile Acid” = 100 mmol/L (this should according to the vet be below 13 )
“Uric Acid” = 159 mmol/L (we are unsure if this is too high...?)

The vet says the main problem is the elevated “bile acid” levels and has given us the advice to give him as much fluid as possible. So we give him 1-2hour bath twice or tree times a day, we have managed to get his vivarium to 80-100% humidity and we give him water & dandelionroot (with a syringe in the mouth) several times a day.

We have read all that we could find about kidney problems, but we feel that our ig doesn’t fit in to any category when it comes to his kidney/liver problem. We live in a country where
igs isn’t the most common of pets (luckely) so we have very limited resources when it comes to meet experts.
So, now our hope is that some of you that have experience in this matter could help us out. We have put together a couple of questions that we feel is the most important right now :

1. - since the main problem seems to be very hig “bile acid” levels, is it right to treat it as a “normal” kidney problem (fluid etc.) ?
2. - have anyone heard of a iguana with the same problem, and in that case what treatment was used ?
3. - We have seen that a lot of lizards with kidney problems get “allopurinol" for treatment. Do anyone kow if it would work in this case or if there is any outher drug that would?

Any other tips or idea is more than welcome since we want to do everything human possible to help our little ig friend...
please reply here or at the following email :

thank you all very much for reading
Regards,
/A.S. & T.H
